Review of City Of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments #2) by Cassandra Clare

Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to being just her and her mother. However what is normal when you're a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother has put herself in a magically induced coma and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon who was becoming more than a friend. Even if she she was ready to leave the shadowhunters world, the shadowhunters would was not ready especially her to let her go - especially her infuriating newfound brother Jace. Clary's only chance to help her mother is to try and track down the rogue Shadowhunter Valentine who is probably insane and almost certainly evil ... and also her father.

To complicate matters, someone in the New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Clary's father Valentine behind all of the killings and if he is, why is he doing this. When the second of the Mortal Instruments is stolen the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate the murders and zooms right onto Jace. How can Clary stop her father if Jace is willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father.

This scintillating sequel to City of Bones, lures the readers back into the dark grip of New York's Downworld. The place where love is never safe and power becomes one of the most deadliest temptation. I loved this book just as much as the first and found that it only added to the universe which Clare has invented. It is exciting to watch Clary and Jace deny their feelings for each other as they have found out that they are brother and sister. This is a constant undertone during the book and you keep waiting for them to give into their feelings, All while trying to avoid Valentine to get the mortal instruments which would end the world as they know it. This is one of the few sequels which i have read that build on the story and not destroy it and would always recommend this to people who loved the first book.
